What do you do?
I am a full-time copywriter and a part-time illustrator and lettering artist. I’ve always found that illustration and lettering lifts up creative advertising and that was why I picked this up as a hobby—first calligraphy and then hand lettering. It’s really fun to do!
What's the story behind this creation?
The Gameboy illustrations is part of a lettering challenge that I took part in (to strengthen my skills).
Where does your creative inspiration come from?
I feel inspired by things and events that happen around me. It can come from the mundane or when I see something online and want to recreate it in my own style.
What are your favourite moments in the creative process?
The best part is the initial sketching, when you don’t really know what the final piece will look like and anything is possible.
What aspects of the process do you find most challenging?
I guess finding the time at all to do illustration; else, I love creating whenever I can.
...and how do you get through those moments?
I try to make the time whenever I can (but it’s still really hard).
As you’re creating, are you thinking about the audience at all? Tell us about that...
Oh yes! I always imagine the final application of my pieces; whether hanging in someone’s home or on the side of a merch piece! That way, I can also take into account all the peculiarities of each application or how to make it flexible.
If you could give your past self just one piece of advice to help them on their creative journey, what would that be?
I would say, don’t overthink the piece too much and it doesn’t have to be perfect.
